Want to learn how to loom?

To get started looming, you will need to purchase a loom or set of looms. The looms can be found at your local craft stores or you can find them online. Usually the looms are sold with a hook and needle that is needed. We recommend purchasing a metal needle for yarn at the craft store as the one that is supplied in the set is plastic and has a tendency to break. You will also need to purchase yarn that you think will make a great hat. We recommend getting yarn that has a bit of thickness to it or doubling the yarn if it is thin to avoid having a hat with large gaps.

We found numerous tutorials online to help beginners as well as new stitches or techniques.  As we try new things, we still scour the internet and loom knitting community for tutorials and tips or tricks.  We hope that you will find these video tutorials helpful.  There are many good people online willing to share their knowledge.

    This tutorial is great and full of information. I would like to post it on my blog’s “Blog” page. Please let me know if this is okay. I have posted links to sites with helpful tutorials and given descriptions of each site. My list is not finished by all means but it i am happy with its progress.

    Also, I noticed you have a gmail address; have you visited any of the communities? There is one called “Crafting for Charity”, I would like to invite you to become a member. The community is set up to provide a communication area for those who do craft for charity with others who are looking for a place to help. You can add your blog, using a post that explains who you are and what you do. Please don’t put any post not related to charitable activities.

      Hello! The little pumpkin hats are made on the little loom with 24 pegs. The brim is 3 rows of garter stitch (which is 1 row of purl and then 1 row of knit). Then the rest of the hat is e-wrapped and closed. The pumpkin stem is an I-cord made on a spool loom for about 5 rows and sewn onto the hat. Hope that helps!

    Hi, I I love the examples of your hats. My question is do you want hats with a loom of 24 or 36 or both. I have never donated hats that I’ve made but I think its an awesome idea but I’m looking for the right charity.

      Hi Donna! We accept all sizes, loomed, crocheted, knitted and even sewn hats for babies and chemo warriors! I hope you find that Knitting Rays of Hope will be your “right” charity! 😉
