World Book Night is 4/23/14 and it’s time to apply, if you would like to be a book giver.
World Book Night is an annual celebration dedicated to spreading the joy of reading, person to person. Each year on April 23, tens of thousands of people go out into their communities and give half a million free World Book Night paperbacks to light and non-readers. In 2012, World Book Night was celebrated in the U.S., the UK, Ireland, and Germany.
World Book Night is about giving books and encouraging reading in those who don’t regularly do so. But it is also about more than that: It’s about people, communities and connections, about reaching out to others and touching lives in the simplest of ways—through the sharing of stories. (link)
The deadline to apply to be a book is January 5th. To apply online, please click here .
I have done this two times already and found it very rewarding. The only thing that I donate is my time- to pick up the books and then distribute them. 20 books, that I chose from the 35 titles, are provided free of charge to distribute! I encourage you to get involved- it’s a great program!
World Book Night
Tonight’s the night…… Tonight I will participate in my 2nd World Book Night (last year’s post). Tonight I will hand out 30 copies of Look Again by Lisa Scottoline, a really good story that is a quick & entertaining read. I am excited to spread the love of reading and get out to meet new people and discuss why we all need to read more.
If you want to get involved next year, go to the www.us.worldbooknight.org and sign up. Later in the year, they will ask you to submit recommendations for that years give away. Once they make their selections, you can apply to be a book giver and select the title you want to give out for free to nurture a love of reading. In the middle of April, you can pick up your box of books from a local library or book store that you select. On April 23, next year, 2014, you can join me in this great cause.
