Colleen Makes a Difference

Colleen in Wisconsin sent us these handmade hats.

hats by Colleen

Colleen included a note that reads:

I hope you can find an organization that will benefit from this donation.  I recently started crocheting again.  My grandmother taught me when I was a teenager.  I find it very relaxing and feel good when others can benefit!  My skill level may not by 100% but all these hats were made with 100% love!  Thank you for your dedication to community service!  You are what makes our country great!

We are so glad you found us and will include these as part of a huge Knitting Rays of Hope delivery that we are preparing right now.

Thank you for sharing your background- how wonderful your grandmother taught you this art that will allow you to make a difference in this world.

Thank you!

Human Rights Day

Human Rights Day is observed on December 10th every year.  It was on this day, that the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

Elie Wiesel

The UN website (link: http://www.un.org/en/events/humanrightsday/index.shtml) states that there are universal values and a common standard for all peoples and all nations:

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights empowers us all. The principles enshrined in the Declaration are as relevant today as they were in 1948. We need to stand up for our own rights and those of others. We can take action in our own daily lives, to uphold the rights that protect us all and thereby promote the kinship of all human beings.

#StandUp4HumanRights

  • The Universal Declaration of Human Rights empowers us all.
  • Human rights are relevant to all of us, every day.
  • Our shared humanity is rooted in these universal values.
  • Equality, justice and freedom prevent violence and sustain peace.
  • Whenever and wherever humanity’s values are abandoned, we all are at greater risk.
  • We need to stand up for our rights and those of others.

Racism, xenophobia and intolerance are problems prevalent in all societies. But every day, each and every one of us can stand up against racial prejudice and intolerant attitudes.

Be a human rights champion, fight racism and Stand Up for Human Rights!
