It’s Our Friend, Dee

Our friend Dee in Pennsylvania sent us a box full of these adorable hats a while back.

CHEMO HATS

Her note reads:

It’s your friend Dee from Pennsylvania.
Selling the house in the city and moving to the more rural retirement community went a lot smoother than we expected and I found my looms quickly.  Here is another shipment of hats.  As always made in smoke-free, pet free home.  Everything is labeled as to fiber content and laundry instructions.

I look forward to your posts and seeing how many people are sharing their wonderful talents.

Keep up the excellent work!

Thank you, Dee!  We are so glad your move was not as difficult as expected and that you are settled in your new community!  We greatly appreciate your hats and will send them in our next delivery.  We are absolutely positive they will bring smiles to everyone’s faces as they did ours!

Thank you

A Special Delivery: Love In Action

In honor of his auntie, my son took in 19 adult hats for chemo warriors to the Oncology Unit that Wanda would get her chemotherapy during her battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

19 Adult Chemo Hats

Wanda passed on 12/27 five years ago, but it seems like yesterday.  It’s always a difficult day around here, and as we fought the tears back, we decided to push through, be strong and do things that she loved.  One of the things Wanda loved to do, was bringing in hats for chemo warriors.  I had just started learning how to loom knit and the hats I made were unquestionably “unique”, but Wanda would always be so kind and encouraging.  And the PR piece was almost always her– I was embarrassed – even with this blog as it sometimes seemed like we were bragging or tooting our own horn.  But she would ask- how can you raise awareness or make changes if nobody knows?  In her kind, patient but firm nature, Wanda pushed me to improve my hat making skills and to grow Knitting Rays of Hope.

Bryan-Delivery

Bryan took in chemo hats for adult chemo warriors at Kaiser in Ontario.

And with this last delivery for 2017, we are proud to say we have delivered 6,118 hats to chemo warriors and babies in the NICU!  We are so grateful for your continued support and generosity!  Thank you for making this world better and for spreading love and hope!

Thank you!

Danger Season

One of the programs that are near and dear to our hearts is the Pajama Program, a charity that offers at-risk children the unconditional, magical gifts of pajamas and books so that they can enjoy the greatest benefit of a loving bedtime and peaceful good night: a fulfilling good day.

We were just informed that Pajama Program’s founder, Genevieve Piturro, will be on Megyn Kelly TODAY at 9am Christmas morning. Hear more from Genevieve about the story of Pajama Program, as told by author Laura Schroff in her book, Angels on Earth.

Pajama Program

We all know the holiday season is here, bringing joy to many, but it can be difficult for those away from their family or fighting cancer. Then, once the holidays end, the cold winter really sets in from January through March.

Unfortunately, the coldest months of winter are often when the contributions decrease.

Please consider contributing to Pajama Program or Knitting Rays of Hope to help spread hope and warmth during the “danger season”.

Thank you!
