I made this Hello Kitty hat for a very special girl, Macie. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her left distal femur on January 25,2013. According to the American Cancer Society, osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer. It is most common in youg teens and develops in areas where the bone develops quickly. High-grade osteosarcomas are the fastest growing and the most dangerous often occurring in children and young adults. Please show your love and support by liking Macie’s page at: Hearts for Macie.
Macie’s mom told us about her and that she liked a kitty hat she saw at a store but it was just a bit small for her. I just knew that I had to make her a Hello Kitty hat when I read her mom’s comments. I created the brim by using a thick pink yarn doing the purl 1 row knit 1 row for about 4 rounds each. I then e-wrapped a thin white yarn with a white homespun yarn to create the fur. I crocheted the embellishments to make finish off the Hello Kitty.
Macie was kind enough to send us two beautiful pictures of her wearing the hat.
She just has the most beautiful smile. We thank you so much for the picture and we are so happy that you liked your hat. We will continue to include you in our prayers as you fight this horrible disease. Always stay strong and brave and know that you are loved.
